What does ‘Pupil of the Week’ mean?
We all know that encouragement and motivation constitute key drivers of success. Each week, we choose a different aspect of student endeavour to be rewarded, setting specific goals, thus educating our students to strive hard to achieve success. Overall, students’ response to this scheme is an ongoing process.

Students need to be provided with specific objectives, so that they may be able to formulate their own assessments with regard to the effort they put in across various fields, and they must be incited to constantly rethink and reevaluate these conclusions as they develop their skills. When we encourage and reward effort, our students will begin to view themselves as responsible for their own learning (Ryan & Deci, 2000).
One of the methods we use to engender motivation in class is the selection of the ‘Pupil of the Week’ by the teacher. The name of the pupil is announced to the class and is posted on the special notice board at our School. For the first two weeks, the set target was ‘THE BEST LISTENER’, that is, the student who would most carefully listen to his teacher.
This was followed by other goals, such as ‘Working with our partners’, ‘Speaking English in class’ and other behaviour patterns we wish to foster. We urge you to encourage your children to undertake responsibilities (using the e-book on their own, or doing their homework without asking for assistance) and to reward them, so that they can take a sense of pride in their achievements.

By thus providing care and support to pupils, the teacher and parents establish a positive way of thinking and can-do mindset among pupils which, in turn, will contribute to further enhancing the learning process and your child’s confidence.
